Your First Orthodontic Consultation At Ethical Dental

Taking the first step towards a straighter, healthier smile is exciting, but we know it can also feel a little overwhelming. At Ethical Dental, our goal is to make your first orthodontic consultation a comfortable and informative experience. We want you to leave feeling confident, well-informed, and supported in making the right decision for your smile.

A Warm Welcome

When you arrive, our friendly team will make sure you feel at ease.

  • New patients will be asked to complete a medical and dental history form so we can understand their overall health and any factors that may influence their care.

  • Existing patients won’t need to fill out a new form, but we will check in to see if there have been any changes to your medical history, medications, or allergies since your last visit.

What Happens During The Consultation

Your orthodontic consultation is focused on a thorough examination and discussion. The dentist will carefully assess your teeth, bite, jaws, and facial profile. This gives us a clear idea of your current dental situation and whether orthodontic treatment may be beneficial.

You’ll then have the chance to talk through:

  • Whether treatment is recommended now, later, or not at all

  • The types of treatment that may be suitable (such as braces or aligners)

  • An estimated timeframe for treatment

  • General information about costs and payment options

Not everyone is suitable for orthodontics, and some people need to be referred to an orthodontic specialist due to the complexity of their care. However, if we think your orthodontic problem is something we can fix, at the end of your consultation, you’ll be given a take-home folder containing information about suitable treatment options and pricing. This allows you to review everything at your own pace, discuss it with family if you wish, and come back to us with any questions.

Next Steps: The Orthodontic Records Appointment

We don’t take X-rays, photographs, or impressions/scans at your first consultation. If you decide you’d like to go ahead with treatment, we’ll book you in for a separate orthodontic records appointment. At this appointment, we collect the detailed diagnostic records needed to plan your treatment, which may include:

  • X-rays to assess tooth and jaw positioning

  • Photographs of your smile and bite

  • Digital scans or impressions of your teeth to create accurate 3D models

  • Measurements of your teeth, jaws, and bite to guide precise treatment planning

These records allow your orthodontist to create a personalised treatment plan tailored specifically for you.

No Pressure, Just Guidance

At Ethical Dental, we believe in honest and ethical care. Your first consultation is all about understanding your needs and providing information — not pressuring you into making a decision. We’ll give you the time and space you need to think about your options, supported by the information in your take-home folder.

Why This First Step Matters

An early orthodontic consultation helps us identify any concerns and, if needed, recommend timely treatment. Even if no treatment is necessary right away, we may suggest monitoring your growth and development over time to keep your smile on track.

✨ At Ethical Dental, your comfort and confidence come first. Your initial orthodontic consultation is a positive step toward achieving a healthier smile, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
